Canasta Caliente

I am an avid card player but one game has always fallen under my radar, Canasta. I recently saw a nice package that included 5 decks of cards, a card tray and the ability to play several variations of Canasta, the game is called Canasta Caliente.

I recently put this game through the paces and like it a lot. The cards are specially imprinted with point values making scoring easier and the game is a big hit. I did play a few games of the variation with the pepper cards and the jury is still out. I have always been a gaming purist and seem to prefer games in their original, classical form.

The card tray is very cheap so don’t get excited in this area but the cards are nice albeit a bit fruity but they work fine.

After doing some research I found that Canasta was a rage in the 1950’s and then died out after there were so many variations in play everybody’s head was spinning and nobody knew which variant to use. Hmmmm sounds like what happened to Heroclix!
