A Wandering Nomad Leads a Lonely Life

I played Knizia’s Africa this weekend and was quite surprised. A huge luck factor in this game must make regular Knizia fans upset but for me it makes for a great game. A treasure hunt in Africa as players take turns discovering gold, gems, animals, and yes nomads. You score for your discoveries but the real strategy is manipulating the tiles and positioning them to get more points. For example, moving a newly discovered Nomad to a space with many adjacent empty spaces scores more points.  I achieved a great score on a Nomad when I placed him smack dab in the middle of nowhere.

Collecting sets of trade goods scores you points for the endgame and so does collecting gold and gems by putting up a base camp to mine them out!

Perfect playtime with high luck factor and some skill makes a good game in my book. A tad dry buy dry in a good way like a dry martini! 🙂
